I Have Never Seen Any Discussion That Compares Console Vs PC Cost That Reached A Peaceful Resolution
As many people do, I often read discussions online and, in many cases, participate in them. One of the discussions that come up often is the difference in cost between PC & console. Console fans often ask the question, “Give me a PC build that costs the same as a console with the same performance.” This is one of the points where the discussion falls apart. In this quick opinion piece, I will discuss why comparing the cost of PC VS console is usually a waste of time, at least with the way it’s often handled.

There’s No Universal Way To Compare The Cost Of PC VS Console
I mean, how can we compare the prices when the price is different depending on the person? Here are some cases:-
-
- Someone who wants the convenience of console will go for it, regardless of the price or cost.
- The same way, someone who wants the power of PC will also go for it. Regardless of the cost.
- People who like the flexibility PC provides will go for it. The same goes for those who need a PC for productivity, even if the performance they will get from it is worse than console.
- There are people who play online, so we need to take into account the $80 yearly cost of online subscription whenever we calculate the cost of console. In many cases, that makes console more expensive than PC.
- PC gamers often state that games are cheaper on their platform. That’s often true, but for the chunk of people who only play a few games, that’s irrelevant. Because it requires one to buy many games for that to make a difference.
So, console may be cheaper to own for you, but PC is cheaper for me. I personally think PC is the master race of all consoles, but for many reasons, not everyone can own one (maybe unless Valve does something about consolizing it). But that’s only my opinion.
And Finally
As you can see, there’s no universal way to calculate the cost of gaming on PC vs console. What makes it worse is that people who indulge in such discussions are bad at it. It takes just one immature or stubborn person for the whole discussion to be completely pointless.
